Why do so many marketing plans fail?
Successful marketing is a far cry from the random selection of tactics on a typical marketing plan.

Marketing is a management process based on strategy that has been informed by a logical sequence of activities, including an insightful internal audit of the business’s activities and abilities, current customers and aspirations, and an external audit of market, economic, competitive and business environments.
It is this strategy that sits at the core of marketing success, yet most businesses don’t have a formal strategy and many wonder why they are not reaching their desired outcomes.
One of the key problems is that business owners and managers commonly fail to differentiate between the marketing strategy and the marketing plan.
- The strategy provides you with a longer term view with clear measurable objectives, and determines how you will achieve them.
- Whereas the plan details what you will do to make the strategy happen, and sets out all the tactics and a time-line for their implementation.
Fundamentally, marketing must align with, and deliver to the business’s overall objectives; together they are the backbone of successful marketing.
